Our Mission

Smith Delso Foundation Mission Statement

The Smith Delso Baseball Foundation aims to ease the financial burden for high school baseball players and their families, with the goal of supporting their success beyond the sport. This is achieved by enhancing players’ personal development for future success and increasing opportunities for them to earn collegiate scholarships, leading to college degrees with minimal debt.

To fulfill its mission, the foundation provides members with complimentary access to an indoor training facility, enabling them to improve their skills and perform at their best. Various training programs, overseen by experienced trainers and coaches, are also offered at no cost. For instance, the Summer Performance Program includes tailored workouts focusing on mobility, strength, agility, and conditioning, supervised by a certified physical therapist and a sport nutritionist. Participants have recorded significant progress in various metrics while gaining muscle and staying injury-free.

Additionally, the foundation hosts a 3-day hitting clinic in the fall, led by the Seattle Mariners hitting coordinator, Tyger Pederson. Tyger shares the hitting philosophy of the Mariners’ organization and provides individualized training guides to players. The foundation also facilitates discounted equipment purchases and allocates funds annually to cover specific expenses for players in need.

Moreover, the foundation extends free college recruiting assistance, leveraging relationships with college baseball coaching staff. This includes arranging campus visits, advising players on coach interactions, and offering guidance during visits. Since its establishment in 2021, the foundation has supported 31 players in securing athletic scholarships for higher education.
