Chris Baker Memorial Leadership Scholarship

The Smith Delso Baseball Foundation is excited to announce the Chris Baker Memorial Leadership Scholarship. Chris was one of the foundation’s biggest supporters and is one of the primary reasons that we have been able to accomplish our mission of minimizing the economic impact experienced by the support systems of amateur baseball players.

Chris was a real-life example of all the traits that we attempt to instill in young players. In an effort to honor his legacy, we have partnered with Jared Baker, Chris’s son, to create a scholarship in his memory.

The intention of the scholarship is to reward members of the foundation who exemplify the following character traits: Humility, Selflessness, Integrity, Accountability, Academic Excellence, and Servant Leadership.

Playing travel ball is a necessity for high school players trying to earn collegiate athletic scholarships. The associated costs have become so high that many young players are unable to participate. We plan to award the scholarship winner with financial support to cover all expenses associated with playing travel baseball. This includes team fees, uniform costs, equipment costs and travel expenses. By providing this scholarship, the foundation will be providing the opportunity to play travel ball to someone who wouldn’t be able to do so on their own.

We are currently collecting donations to be put toward this year’s scholarship and hope to name the winner before May. Once we have collected donations, Jared will be coming to Tulsa to inform the winner of their selection. If you would like to donate to the scholarship, please contact me via call or text at 918-402-7444. The foundation is a nonprofit recognized by the state and federal government. Any donation of $250 or more is considered a charitable donation and qualifies as a tax deduction. All donors will receive a donation acknowledgement from the foundation upon donating.

Sincerely,
Dylan Delso
